Planning an Autumn Bushveld Trip

The months are flying by so fast that it is hard to believe that we are in the middle of the third month of the year. Summer is starting her slow wind-down, the days are hot but cooler than they were even a month ago, and tired minds are planning the first break of the year.

The Lowveld is a wonderful place to spend a much needed autumn break. While the leaves are not necessarily falling off all of the trees, the landscape does take on a golden hue and the air is a lot more refreshing. The autumn season passes at a rapid pace in our part of the world, so if you are looking to make the most of it, it’s best that you get your plans in order.

At Pensao, a guesthouse in Nelspruit tucked away in a leafy green suburb, autumn is a busy time of the year. Not only is it a popular time to travel, because the weather is so pleasant, but many take a break now because the first school holidays are on the horizon and Easter is around the corner. At our guesthouse, we have comfortable accommodation in Nelspruit and we welcome guests from all over the country to share in the comfort and the vibe that we have to offer. We are the ideal place to stay when you are looking for an autumn break and whether you want a weekend away or if you are planning a week long break, you will have an unforgettable holiday when you stay with us.

Planning your Autumn Break

This time of year is just wonderful, a welcome break after an almost 6 month long summer. The mornings and evenings are cool, chasing away the mosquitoes and making it a lot more pleasant to sit outside. The scenery around the town and especially in the surrounding landscapes is picture perfect and ideal for picnics, braais and adventures.

When you are thinking about taking an autumn break, here’s what you should plan for.

  1. It is autumn but it is hot

The Lowveld is not like the rest of the country. When the summer comes to an end in other parts of the country, the heat usually goes away immediately. Here in the Lowveld it takes time for the seasons to switch over, so you should pack some summer clothing plus a light jersey and some other warmer clothing.

  1. Make most of the great outdoors

Now is a great time of year to spend as much time outdoors as possible. The worst of the heat and the humidity has gone, making picnics and braais more comfortable. This is also a wonderful time of the year to go hiking.

  1. Plan for delicious meals

For most of the summer you are not going to want to touch hot meals like stews and soups, but now that the cooler autumn months are here, you can have those heartier meals. If you are staying in self-catered accommodation in Nelspruit, prepare an appropriate menu.
